Note: I have completed part b for you. [Writer’s Name] [Supervisor’s Name] [Subject] [Date] Remediation According to Paul Levenson, remediation is the anthropotropic process that enhances new media technologies upon or remedies older media technologies.  Bolter (2001) defined remediation as the process with which the new medium substitutes the earlier medium, borrowing and restructuring the distinguishing qualities of writing in the earlier medium and reshaping its cultural space. He said that remediation is the logics-directed process implicated with a variety of media. The notion of remediation can assist describe the cultural wealth of the World Wide Web. As developed in a newly printed volume, remediation submits to the mean in which new-fangled digital standards refashion preceding media structures. The getaway of the animation is happening in digital as well as conventional media. It is one term of a larger occurrence, the modern fight back among various methods of representations in different media. A major trait of our present cultural instant is that different media are rivaling with and at the same time disbursing reverence to one other. Printed text, for instance books and magazines are trying to look as computer multimedia. While at the same instant Web pages are trying to seen as newspaper or journals. Even though this sort of interchange amid media too has been more or less for many years, it is chiefly noticeable in the 20th century. As new mediums for example broadcasting, motion picture, and television have been launched each tries to borrow from one another, and at the same time also attempt to build up an association which the written book and print customs. This exchange has been observing mostly among visual media. Digital media like computer graphics, practical realism, and the web delineate themselves by borrowing from, paying reverence to, critiquing, and modernize their forerunner, predominantly small screen (TV), pictures, cinematography and work of art, but also print. Also, older media can transform contemporary ones under the equivalent media system. Remediation appears to be an elementary trait not only for present-day media, but for every graphic media at least from the time when the revitalization with its innovation of linear angle canvas. Each medium seems to copy this prototype of scrounging and adapt other media and competition plus deference seems at all times to be in work. Remediation, directness and hypermedia may not be the universal artistic or visual truths; however, they may be regarded as the practices of particular groups at particular times. Even though the logic of directness has apparent itself from the revitalization to the recent days, each manifestation in each period may be drastically unusual, and directness may sense one element to thinkers, another to keen and practical artists, designers or developers and a third to spectators. The miscellany is even greater for hypermedia, which for all time seems to present several different responses to the present-day logic of directness. Remediation always functions under the recent cultural conjectures regarding directness and hypermedia. The digital media that persist today are distinguished by the methods in which they disburse reverence to, make use of, rival, and modify both their forerunner and one another. In each of these medium, web developers are basically trying not only to apposite or enhance the cultural position of the prior medium but also to outshine that older medium by furnishing more ease, news, entertainment, facilities and a more persuasive experience. Our culture needs to boost its media and at the same time to wipe away the outlines of conciliation. Earlier, well-known media can remediate newer media technology too such as both in print newspapers and television news bulletin are now making utilizing the visual environment of the World Wide Web; films with full of actions and simulation are receiving from computer animatronics. Remediation is operating all through our media-flooded environment. There are remediation tactics that are at work. First our culture would like to consider that its media can turn out to be transparent and it can provide the viewers with abrupt experience. Electronic hypertext certainly disburses admiration to the medium that it is on the lookout for modification or modernization. Genres provide effective guidance for people that are working in an alien region like hypertext and the traditional facets of several genres, for all time open for reviewing, and in the context of hypertext, remediation has been sanctioning, instead of restraining, for most of the people that write hypertextually. Anis Bawarshi comment that genre studies which emphasizes on the creation of texts have grown in operational and applied linguistics, education, communication studies, oratory and composition and even psychology If the hypertext was meant to provide a murk text, a symbolic alternative of the printed text, the Web site is rather an improved form or a remediation of the printed text, entailing further information, correction, and enhancements. The theory of hypertext was abstruse today with the great success of the World Wide Web, the notion, has become widespread cultural knowledge. Typically a web page is comprised of text and images just as a page in a book or in a magazine. Unlike books and magazines, however, contents presenting the text or portions of the images on the web page can be hot, that means, clicking on them will open up a new page. Electronically, one page can be connected to many other pages. In a way, this connection is simply the correspondent of the footnote that is used in printed books for many years. As opposed to looking on the bottom of the page the user positions the cursor, and the reference is retrieved and displayed by the computer. In a printed book it would be unbearably finicky to enter footnotes to footnotes, in the computer encrusted writing and reading is natural. Furthermore, the next page is not essentially the inferior to the first page. One linked text may let the reader to a longer, more detailed page. All of the pages may or may not be of equal weight in the complete text, which constitutes a network of interconnected writings. This type of network is called a hypertext. A fact about the World Wide Web and of most stand-alone systems is that hypertext entails discrete units, for instance, pages, texts, images and the links between them. The links establish a path through a virtual space and the user becomes a visitor in that space. Hence, it is said that the user visits the web pages (Yates and Perrone, 1998). The World Wide Web is possibly our culture's most persuasive term of hypermediacy. As Michael Joyce says, replacement is the heart of hypertext and in a way the entire World Wide Web is a work out in replacement: print resides itself; electronic text takes place of itself. As the user clicks on an underlined text on a web page, a link is becomes active and it calls up another page to be displayed. The prior text or picture has been erased and the new wanted material comes into view in the original window. The act of clicking perhaps creates a new frame within the same window or it is also possible that a new window put on top of the first one. The new displayed page consequently gets our concentration through the removal (interpenetration), tiling (coincidence), or overlapping (reproduction) of the last page. Remediation is more essential when the new space is of a new medium, for instance, manifestation of images as a result of a clicking on a text in a web page The web portal and the public web place are the genres of the web that are improved form of different kinds of media. As the forms are transferred to the web, they are transformed and we view an amalgamation of two or more media types. As a result we may also observe an amalgamation of different types of information seeking and information retrieval. A web portal or a weblog may be regarded as a remediation of a newspaper or a journal. In the perspective of Hunter, this is as a general characteristic of hypertextual media. The periodical journals and newspapers as well as hypermedia contents communicate by mean of selected collections of smaller contents, implicated in a variety of foregrounded ways by design. For enhancing the reader's relative responses, neither medium has a solitary writer nor a single content, neither force on a particular order of reading, and both can and frequently do offer a merger of media – the periodical has printed text, photograph, cartoon, bulletin among others (Hunter, 1999). Hypermedia CD-ROMs replace one medium with another eternally, tackling the user with the problem of several representations and demanding her to think why one medium might provide a more suitable representation than another. By doing this, they are carrying out what is characterized as deeds of remediation. Much of the present World Wide Web also remediates earlier forms without demanding them. Its clicking interface let the developer to reordering texts and graphics taken from journals, magazines or television, but the restructuring or reordering does not demand the status of a text or the quality of a graphical image. In all of the foresaid cases, the new medium would not like to obliterate itself completely. All remediation is forever attached to the technology that an original media is attempting to wipe away. Thus, every mediation is remediation. So, for instance, previous media can modernize present-day media (e.g., a print editorial regarding new media) (Hayles, 2002).
