СОNTRОL ОBJЕСTIVЕS FОR INFОRMАTIОN АND RЕLАTЕD ТЕСHNОLОGY (СОBIТ) Introduction COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology). This framework was created to manage information technology and to govern it as well allowing managers to reduce a gap between technical problems and the risks involved in the business (Stancheko 2008). ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) is best practice framework for IT management in an organization. It provides governance and ensures continuous measurement and improvement of quality of services delivered (Ridley 2004). This report entails the scope of both technologies in which each is described in detail. I also have described their framework, advantages, disadvantages and comparison of each of them and implementation methodology Scope and purpose The scope and purpose of COBIT is to control and manage business issues not only in the information technology department but also in the whole business. COBIT produces out a model that enables bringing out the importance of IT leading to good understanding hence better management of IT. This is used by many people who rely on technology for business processes information COBIT maim aim is to provide management and business process shareholders with good IT governance model that aim in making the importance known to the management and also some of problems that can arise from it (Isaca 2012). Use of COBIT enables them to reduce the difference between what the business wants and the issues immerging from technology. It’s used worldwide for people who want their business operations to be as per the technology. It also used to provide a good reliable and quality information technology. Unlike other it tools COBIT cannot be applied to only in one department but it should be applied to the entire organization this include all main processes such as procurement, marketing of good and sales and all the support activities of the core processes which are human resource employment, administration of organization and information technology. This system empower the owners of the business and also makes them, accountable as the business processes when used by IT the final responsibility is to the owner (chan 2009). ITIL is about processes, procedures and tasks that can be used by the organization to integrate and establish company’s strategy in order to maintain competency and deliver good and improved work. . ITIL main focus is making sure that the business information and technology is aligned to the needs of the business. It’s published in five volumes which cover ITSM life cycle stages. It used to explain procedures and task that can be used by an organization for integration of company’s strategies with little competency (Itsmf 2007. For good productivity in an organization it’s important to use it service management. IT infrastructure involve some set practices that have no cost to be incurred when developing them and thus the user must ensure that they have to make some investments on training and some software that are compatible with ITL which involve automation of service and tracking of business processes(Symons 2007). Frameworks COBIT framework It provides a clear difference between governance and management of IT in an organization. (Buzina 2008).This includes the business and IT to ensure enables effective governance and also foster management IT in the enterprise (Selig 2008). It ensures that business users are satisfied with use of IT to achieve business objectives. This is possible by providing easy and detailed. COBIT has five principals of governance which include: Stakeholder Needs The main aim of each organization is to add value for their stakeholders or owners. When creating value, governance is one of major determinant and also very important. The main aim of COBAT is to ensure that the value creation is a governance objective for any enterprise. When creating value it ensures that the organization reaches these best value at most minimal costs while reducing risks for good running of the organization (Grembergen 2008). This is possible by integrating it governance to provide effective standards and practice. Single Integrated Framework IT provides standards and practices that are the best and can address IT activities, COBIT ensures that standards and frameworks are good high hence a good governance framework for a business. This is important to control all business and hence allowing easier auditing (kaplon 2008) Holistic Approach For a good governance and management of enterprise IT requires holistic approach, COBIT ensures an inclusive governance and effective management through enablers. These are things that ensure organization is able to achieve its objectives. Which include: Policies, Frameworks, and Structures, Behavior, Infrastructure and application of Skills and employee competency (Doughty 2005). Differentiating Governance from Management COBIT framework gives a clear difference on governance and management. These two serve a different purpose and type of activities and hence want different structures. Governance ensures that stakeholder needs, are assessed to come up with enterprise objectives through decision making and performance monitoring. This also monitors Companies objectives and Management plans (Weill 2004). ITIL framework According to Itgi (2008) the frame work of ITL include Service desk Most important processes in ITIL are Service Level Management that establishes good service delivery standards, in meeting business requirements. The major constituents of service desk are Catalogue; Service Agreements and Operational Agreements. Service Catalogue is each service provided by organization e.g. deliverables, details, and how each service performance is measured. Incident Management It’s a set of processes that identify service anomalies and functions of systems quickly as so as moderate impact on organization and to increase service levels. These processes focus on services rather than management. Problem Management It’s a process that relates and describe work of it staff IT staff in resolving the problems. It involves management, reducing service problems and prevention of future problems by analyzing data to identify causes. Change Management It’s a practice that avoids future problems by safeguarding that no variations are done without proper analysis, risk valuation and preparation. Capacity management Organization hast define the services it needs by calculating items it needs to achieve desired service levels. These results into Management, business department, finance, and service support services come up with annual growth plan. Implementation methodology ITIL It’s the most wide used management approach and provides a practical guide to IT services by process which involve indentify, plan, deliver and support IT process in a given organization. ITIL is based on five publications that provide a systematic and professional approach to help in management use of information and technology in an organization in order to meet business goals and objectives. These publication starts by indentifying what the requirement that customer needs and what drives that needs. After knowing the need it essential to provide a design that is able to meet the need of the customer and after that it involve finalizing operation by implementation of the design. COBIT In using IT in controlling each business using COBIT it involves preparing IT governance self test using implementation tool of COBIT. The users then should be interviewed on COBIT processes to be able to determine the important of objective to business, performance of processes, accountability and control of processes in place. After this the management is heightened on risk indicator and answers given in which if most don’t know pass a great message. After this output the it result to IT processes designed by COBIT in meeting the objectives of each objectives and coming up with processes that can be able to improve performance and management of organization Differences COBIT mostly focuses on use of IT to control business it ensures that the organization uses informational and technology to manage the processes in the organization. Use of ITIL main aim to ensure that are used by the organization to integrate and establish company’s strategy in order to maintain competency and deliver good and improved work. . ITIL main focus is making sure that the business information and technology is aligned to the needs of the business COBIT mainly focuses on IT metrics, this means that means that IT tools are used in business while use of ITIL main aim is to ensure that the IT is used in management in order improve performance of the organization. COBIT is mostly used by auditors in SOX it’s a very good tool as it focuses on all process of organization hence an organization can be able to control and monitor performance of all the business. The main component in ITIL is security by ensuring that users are satisfied with use of IT to achieve business objective as provide detailed and easy procedures. COBIT mainly focuses on general success of company this is because it ensures that in all business processes IT is incorporated to ensure all departments achieve the company goals and objectives. ITIL main aim is to ensure there is service delivery to all users in the company by using IT to ensure that it meets the business goals and objective. Advantages of ITIL It’s a widely used framework in IT hence it’s known for its good performance. this because it’s a good software that allow integration with business processes. This software creates a channel in which the business can communicate with the business on issues affecting the organization. It assists the business in supporting needs and goals of organization to give the organization clear guidelines in maintaining an IT services in the organization. It’s a method that ensures all members of staff are engaged to achieve a given objective and gives the management a plan to ensure predictability and accountability of IT services. Benefit of COBIT As per the IT Governance Institute, when finding at an industry profitability of the Enterprise IT who have applied COBIT say that. Most of people using COBIT have been satisfied with its use and also have been recommended to others due to its simplicity. It can be used by management to easily manage some of risk that is related to it and how to solve them. With use COBIT it’s known to improved communication between the managers and the other departments. Its fosters good relationship between the business department and the it in the organization and relationships between business and IT. It most effective as it involves reduced it costs and fosters improved it delivery in meeting objectives and hence improved competitive advantage. Conclusion and recommendations I would recommend that the managers should use combination of both COBIT and ITIL this because each has its own advantage and disadvantage and combination of both would ensure the business is able to reach it goals and objective. This is because for success of each business entails using all possible resources to ensure the success of business. References Stachtchenko, P. 2008.
