Question Tracking Gantt charts are vital tools used in communicating project schedule status. For instance, tracking Gantt charts will be used to determine how much the project has been completed and the current status of the project. This information is vital in determining what next for the project. It is also worth noting that Tracking Gantt charts show dependencies that are easily identified when used within a network. Question 6 Projects should be flexible because of the uncertainties that might arise during its development. Some changes can be positive while others may be negative; but the way the project managers deal with these changes is what makes the difference between a successful and failed project. Under normal circumstances, changes to the project baseline undermine the baseline’s effectiveness as a mechanism for monitoring project progress and tracing back delays and problems. In this regard, it is important for project managers to resist changes to the project baseline. That is, any change that affects the baseline should only be implemented after a thorough analysis and conclusion that the project will fail without the change and the outcome of the project will be enhanced with the change or if the project’s customer will take full responsibility of the change. In a nutshell, it is factual to state that it is unnecessary to make changes to baselines with an aim of disguising poor performance on past or current work or after cost account is complete. INSTALLATION OF NEW ROOF PROJECT Purpose This is the installation of a new roof structure to replace the single level cottage. Upon completion of the installation, the old roof structure will be demolished and the part of the remaining of the cottage will be reconstructed. Scope The scope of this project is to install a new roof structure and to replace the existing single level cottage. The existing cottage is 48 feet x 24 feet with a roof slope of 4/12 and the cottage will be available for six (6) days for the removal of the existing roof and the installation of the new roof trusses, roof decking and asphalt shingles. Once the new roof has been installed and is weather tight, the roof is to have the required ventilation, insulation, vapour barrier and drywall installed on the ceiling. The building’s waste products will be disposed to a licenced waste site to avoid environmental degradation. Substructure system EXTERIOR CLOSURE SYSTEM: The exterior wall design of the cottage will not be changed. That is, wall system consists primary of brick veneer with composite metal panels and composite. ROOFING SYSTEMS: The new roof structure will be engineered trusses. In addition, the roof will be characterized by green roofs where indicated and SBS modified bitumen system 2-ply with Elvaloy cap sheet elsewhere with reflective treatment. Asphalt walkways included for built-up roof. Insulation is 2 layers of 3-1/2" polyisocyanurate (R-40) plus tapered insulation. Gutters and downspouts included for high slope standing seam metal roof. Rubberized membrane included for SSMR at eaves/fascia and valleys. Snow guards are also included at SSMR. WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE (WBS) WORK PACKAGES 1.1.1 Foundation Development: this is important to ensure that the foundation will be able to sustain the wait of the new roof. 1.1.2 Exterior Wall development: just like the foundation, the exterior wall analysis is important in sustaining the wait of the new roof. 1.1.3 Roof Development: this involves replacing the old roof with new roof. The required ventilation, insulation, vapours barrier and drywall installed on the ceiling to ensure effectiveness of the roof. In addition, the new roof will be characterized by the new roof trusses, roof decking and asphalt shingles. 1.2 Electrical Infrastructure: this involves the installation of the electric devices in the house. Despite the fact that the electric devices needs to remain operational as possible, the installation of the new roof will need adjustment in the electric infrastructure of the cottage. Some of the electronic devices include; HEMP vestibule lighting, grounding, lightning protection, communications systems, and HEMP penetrations 1.3 Plumbing Infrastructure: This will ensure that the house is restored to its earlier status. it involves Furnishing and installation of the domestic water supply and a roof drain system. 1.4 Inside Wall Development: Rough Finish The Foundation Development (extensive analysis of the foundation) must complete before the start of Exterior Wall Development. On the other hand, Roof Development depends on the completion of the Exterior Walls. Once the roof is complete, both the plumbing and electrical work can begin. ESTIMATED TIME SCHEDULE   Wk1 Wk2 wk3 Wk4 Wk5 Wk6 Foundation development         Exterior wall development         Roof installation Electrical infrastructure       Plumbing             Inside wall development             The project will be undertaken for a period of 6 weeks. The table above shows the total time schedule of the project’s major deliverables. Each deliverable is expected to take one week. The first in the line is Foundation Development (extensive analysis of the foundation) followed by Exterior Wall Development. After the analysis of the exterior wall, the Roof Development will then be undertaken. Once the roof is complete, both the plumbing and electrical work can begin. TABLE 1: project budget for roof top installation project Roof top installation project Description Cost Professional services $5000 Design and engineering $1500 Development materials $3000 Disposal cost $250 Project cost $9750 RISK PLAN Working on the roof is for sure a very risky activity. Fatal falls during work on roofs has caused serious injuries and to the extreme has resulted to deaths. Hence, it is necessary to take risk measures before starting to work on the roof top. Regardless of the duration that the project will be executed, it is important to ensure safety while working at height on roofs. Proper planning by the stakeholders ensures that the work is carried out efficiency, safely and without undue delay. How to reduce risk At the Roof’s Edge When working at the edge of the roof, the roofer will work from a scaffold or aerial lift. Both the equipment will all be made available to ensure safe, stable work platform from which the roofer can reach the area undergoing repair. Working Higher Up on the Roof Proper constructed scaffolds are recommended for roof tops beyond the reach of the arms. However, to adequately protect workers from falling, the top rail will have to extend higher than 45 inches above the roof surface. Apart from scaffolds, Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) will be used during the roof’s installation process. This is shown in the image below: Important steps: The first in reducing risk is to identify fall protection needs. Use protective covers such as PFAS and scaffold (that will support 2X the weight of the roofer) to guard against falls through skylights or other roof openings. Taking necessary measures to curb air hoses and power cords for nail guns and other electrical equipment. The replacement tiles and the removed shingles are put in a safe place to avoid dangerous trip hazard. Work cited Gray, Erik W. Larson and Clifford F.
