Book Review The book True Prosperity: How to Have Everything by Yehuda Berg focuses on the need by every person to be financially successful in life. The book also brings in the concept of the negative aspects economic success. It is also in the book that Berg explains the concept of true happiness and fulfilments in life (1-55). This book appealed to me since it gave insights on how to be successful in the everyday life. I selected the book since it does not draw information from other sources but from spiritual wisdom of the teachings of Kabbalah, a body of spiritual knowledge. Through the book, I anticipated to gain knowledge that would help me attain success in life, as well as prevent the chances of setbacks occurring in other areas that may bar me from succeeding. The author of True Prosperity: How to Have Everything is Yehuda Berg. Berg is an assistant executive for Communications at The Kabbalah Centres (Berg Copyright section). Berg lives in Los Angeles. The author is also the writer of The 72 Names of God and The Power of Kabbalah that have been rated as best-sellers (Berg Copyright section). The author is also in the process of compiling yet another text, Pentateuch--the Five Books of Moses, that involve the Kabbalistic commentary. From an analysis of these works and the commentaries of the works, it is evident that Berg is an established writer. In line with this argument, therefore, it is worth indicating that the author has something of significance to say or are not simply aimed at lining their pockets with royalties. In the work, the author focuses on an explanation of the concept of true success. As seen in the work of Berg, real success has been defined as a form of success that does not have other effects on the side (1-19). This is to mean that money is a tool or a form of energy that is used to drive a business plan that has already been drawn by the universe. Humans, therefore, must endeavor to be the cause in life through always taking responsibility for their actions. Berg also explains that true prosperity allows for a termination of monotonous and productive thinking (2- 49). With this in perspective, it is probable that the chances of one being guilty for their actions will be reduced a great deal as well as stressful feelings that emanate from routine thinking. In this context, the author also points out that stress needs not be used as a tool towards attaining wealth and success (2-49). In turn, the author recommends that individuals set strategic and flexible goals that will help them attain all their objectives in different areas of their lives. From this argument, it is valid to argue that the author recommends that the individuals arm themselves with surerity that will help them overcome their ego. These aspects have also been indicated to be useful in tracking an individual’s progress based on the timelines put (14-39). True success can also be connected to the ability to make the right economic decisions, but with the command of spiritual principles that are useful for attracting fulfilment from the general world view. Yet another main theme of the book touches on the spiritual approaches for building true achievement. Berg argues that a business plan must involve a spiritual component in it (56). This is because money in itself is not a material object but a spiritual aspect. This is to mean, for a business to succeed, one must adopt a spiritual component in life that will allow for a chance to make the right decisions for the business. This also relates to the fact that, for prosperity to be attained in business, one must be spiritual and think on a spiritual line if fulfilment and prosperity will be achieved in a business. It is evident from the work that the destiny of human life is spiritual prosperity and spiritual principles must always be applied in the real world (Berg 59-76). It in this context that the author advocates for the application Kabbalistic tools that help an individual overcome all the limitations that the physical world may pose and even make the best out of their ability (Berg 99-101). The Kabbalistic tools have also been said to help individuals find their way even when faced with extreme situations (Berg 111). In the context of business, therefore, success can only be achieves if individuals are able to connect with their spiritual selves and go beyond fear, rage or even wariness. Success, in this case, will be a lasting one, and one that guarantees long-term fulfillment (Berg 114). The work also focuses on the theme of success in companies. Berg is of the opinion that a successful company is one that is spiritual in nature (119). It is through taking a spiritual mindset that the company will get the motivation required to run its affairs. Bosses that care for their employees as Berg writes, are ones that direct the subordinates toward the right direction that involves pushing for positive change (120-123). It is of essence that the employees and the employers devise a way that will see to the loyalty to God, who is the sole determiner of success. In this process, it is likely that the business will have the opportunity to get as much as possible form the universe and even make the right decisions. An adoption of a spiritual thought in business will help deal with enemies that may not of any good intention to the nosiness (Berg 122). It is this aspect therefore that leads to the author calling for consciousness and application of the spiritual laws that will not only lead to a connection with the universe, but also allow for ultimate success (Berg 151). Individuals are also beseeched to always consult from a spiritual perspective if they have achieve success with an equal measure. Individuals are also asked to always be excited and rise from their comfort zones, since it is this excitement that will solve the problems of human nature and provide a basis for absolute abundance (Berg 154-155). The work of Yehuda Berg focuses on true prosperity. In the work, the author applies practical spiritual strategies that are fundamental for building true prosperity. It is here that Berg argues that in as much one has set goals, they can only be realized if a spiritual approach is adopted (57). Individuals have been asked to use their power for good but not to serve a negative task that allows for unfair competition. The spiritual aspect has also been termed as the main tool for fair competition and even achieving a higher purpose in life (Berg 61). Human beings have been thought to desire Ssuccess and even compete naturally. However, Berg deems this kind of success useless if a spiritual component is not added to the mindset. The Kabbalistic tools included in the work are simple to understand and practical in nature. One can actually relate to what the author aims at portraying. The formulae to success are also simple and the author even gives a go ahead to making consultations on matters that individuals do not comprehend. The author also cautions against living and operating businesses in the dark as the light- spiritual awareness- is the blueprint to successful businesses (Berg 67-68). The author also stresses the need for individuals to always become the cause in their lives and not the effect as persons that are not in the spiritual light continually operate. Attaining all the individual wants, needs to be tied to the light- spiritual consciousness. Lastly, the author made a compelling case for his arguments. The author applies practicality in his argument by giving examples that the reader can relate to. Through the author’s arguments one can relate to their past life and even the events that have shaped their being. At most times, individuals ignore the spiritual content of business and even assume that money has no form of spirituality. According to Berg, money has everything spiritual and individuals always have to focus on spiritual matters if they have to attain overall success. At most times, we are the effects and not the cause. As the Kabbalistic tools argue, we need to always be the causes and not enjoy the effects after efforts has been put by others. I believe that the author refurbished the ideas of other writers. A great percentage of works focus on spirituality defines business. In the book, Berg makes it different by applying the Kabbalistic tools to a validation of the fact that success in business can only be achieved by an application of a spiritual context in business. The aspect of the need by every person to attain financial success is also not new. Probably the unique aspect of the wok is that it applies the thoughts of Kabbalah that is among the oldest spiritual bodies of wisdom. I also love the way the author explains their points in a catchy manner. Work Cited Berg, Yehuda. True Prosperity: How to Have Everything. NY: Research Centre of Kabbalah, 2005. Print.   Read More
